The five key characteristics of future products, or systems, are such as: being smart, being network-centric, being compact, being energy-efficient, and being environment-friendly. Therefore, artificial intelligence is the enabling capability for manufacturing, or industry, to achieve smart products, or smart systems, in our modern society. In this seminar, I will first give an overview about the definition and history of artificial intelligence. Then, I will highlight the blueprint of AI 3.0, followed by some achievements from today’s artificial intelligence research. Subsequently, I will talk about introduction to industry 4.0 as well as automation systems, intelligent planning, intelligent control and unmanned factory for future manufacturing.
